Food, culture and the black forest
You have the whole world at your feet.
The Ortenau region in Baden is a must-do stop-off on any grand world tour. After all, the region boasts one of the three most significant Gothic cathedrals in the world, as well as Roman ruins, one of only two of the world's Fabergé museums, a unique natural landscape, the world's finest beer, the world's biggest cuckoo clock, the best ham, almost 50 Michelin-starred restaurants - and all this within a less than 40-minute radius of LIBERTY!
Offenburg
Holiday in the heart of Ortenau
Holiday in the heart of Ortenau. Even Goethe wrote about Offenburg and Ortenau: "In no other place does the sun shine brighter and the sky more blue than here between the Rhine and the vines!" We feel we should respectfully add: Offenburg, this picturesque gateway to the Black Forest, is a city of trade fairs and media as well as being a hotspot for culture and shopping. And of course a wine metropolis surrounded by nature in abundance. To the east of Offenburg, vineyards extend all the way up to the edges of the Black Forest. Riesling and Pinot noir are two of the fine grapes grown here. The wines are tasted and enjoyed in cosy inns, snug seasonal wine taverns and first-class eateries. Truly a culinary delight as an accompaniment to the famous Baden cuisine. From the vineyards, the view extends towards the west, over into the neighbouring region of Alsace. There, on the horizon, is the towering silhouette of Strasbourg cathedral.

Strasbourg
French "Savoir vivre"
Take a leisurely stroll through the wonderful city of Strasbourg along the banks of the river Ill and then following the canals. Immerse yourself in a world of shopping with a good dose of French "savoir vivre". Walk through peaceful parks or bustling marketplaces. The whole city centre has been designated an architectural world heritage site by UNESCO. The literally outstanding Cathédrale Notre-Dame is over 1,000 years old and is a masterpiece of Gothic art. Or the picturesque “La Petite France” district with its well-kept historic half-timbered houses right on the water, where fishermen, millers and tanners would once have lived. The European parliament is also based in Strasbourg. The giant museum for modern and contemporary art is a fascinating place to visit. The Tomi Ungerer Centre is devoted to the artistic creations of this renowned illustrator from Alsace.

Freiburg
At the foot of the black forest
How charming and attractive this university town in Baden is! So it's no surprise that so many people want to live, study and be creative here in Freiburg in the Breisgau region. The heart of the city almost has a Mediterranean feel to it: at the Rathausplatz, or in Oberlindenplatz or Augustinerplatz, along the burbling “creek” in the old town, around the secluded fountains, in cosy bars and street cafés. Or at the truly unmissable market at the foot of the Freiburg Minster, which is crammed with local delicacies from Baden and Alsace. Freiburg is steeped in history, the city gates bear witness to this fact, as do the churches, mansions, half-timbered architecture and rewarding museums. And from the almost 1,300 metre high Hausberg, the so-called “Schauinsland” lookout point, a glorious panorama opens up over the rooftops, across the Black Forest mountains and over to the snow-capped peaks of the Alps.

Black forest
A paradise for leisure activities & food & drink
Cuckoo clocks and cherry cake, “Bollenhut” pompom hats and ham – yes, this wonderful holiday region in south western Germany is famous for all these things. Once you’ve seen the gentle, wooded hills of the Black Forest for yourself, you will never forget the experience. You’ll find sparkling lakes and picturesque Black Forest farms, and quaint inns which welcome you to linger for a while. Hikers, mountain bikers and motorcyclists will all be amazed at the panoramic routes here. And that’s not all by a long stretch. To the west the Black Forest mountains fall gently away into the wide Upper Rhine plain. And it's right here that the grape trellises stand, growing internationally award-winning wines. And best of all: this wonderful natural backdrop is all within sight for LIBERTY guests! Linger a while on our roof terrace, perhaps with a sunset cocktail in your hands, look to the east - and prepare to be enchanted.

Baden-Baden
Casino, culture and thermal baths
If it was OK for the Romans, it only seems fair that we should enjoy the same facilities: bathing, spa treatments, relaxation and immersion in the whole world of balneotherapy - this is all an essential part of enjoying Baden-Baden’s natural hot thermal springs. Baden-Baden is chic and glamorous; this little spa town offers first class indulgence surrounded by the Black Forest peaks, the festival theatre of its stunning parks. Indulging in some exclusive shopping in the old town or along the historic spa building colonnades. A visit to the Fabergé museum is essential. And in the evening, why not try your luck at the “most beautiful casino in the world”, as Marlene Dietrich once put it.
